Community Garden
The Garden of Eatin’ began in 2018 as a community garden on the Wintergarden Presbyterian Church campus, inspired by a vision first shared in 2015. Today, it features twenty raised beds—sixteen standard plots and four ADA-compliant beds—available for individuals, families, and communal use to support the adjacent food pantry. Any gardener may also donate produce to help feed neighbors in need. In addition, there are six garden beds dedicated to growing food for the food pantry.
The garden grew out of the church’s efforts to reduce food waste from its 24-hour pantry, leading to composting initiatives and partnerships with MakeSoil, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, and Boy Scout Troop 37, whose Eagle Scout projects built the first twenty beds. Over time, it has expanded into a food forest and registered soil site, creating a sustainable system of growing and composting.
Looking ahead, the Garden of Eatin’ will continue to expand communal beds, fruit trees, and educational opportunities. Our vision is to nourish body and spirit while equipping the community to address food insecurity in sustainable, life-giving ways.
